“Dance of the Octopi” by Jessica Swafford

4 arms arched, 4 legs linked
Slyly, we do the dance of the octopi.
Legs tangled like tentacles
A heavy hand on hip
Slender wrist saddled over shoulder
Remaining hands clasped
Like a mollusk to its shell
Above our heads
We form this strange symmetry
In a sea of vast darkness,
Feeling our way through,
Wanting to forget the cold
Emptiness of this ocean floor.
