“I want to know myself” by Rudy Thomas

I want to know myself in you
as we wander under blue skies,
up & down, restlessly where Ginseng grows.

I want to see myself, tiny as yellow rush rose
inside the golden amber of your eyes,
suspended from a ledge, like wild, blue,

forget-me-nots. I want to write poetry
in a place where no one sees you—
sees us—among the many vibrant flowers.

If I ask you to dance in sunshine or in showers,
while wild birds caw & sing, will you
give me that sultry look before you agree?
