“Why?” by Elane Moore-Turenne

Why haven’t I been
. to bed tonight when
. already the dawn is
. looming bright
. and the nearest stars
. are retreating fast.

Where is the message
. I seek to know
. as pairing birds fly
. to and fro signaling
. each others in first
. dawn’s light that
. puts them all to flight.

Quieter grows the air
. as the approaching sun
. signals daily tasks should
. be begun.
As I sit here in the questing light
. I wonder why don’t I
. Sleep at night.

I like the rhyme in this poem. It is unobtrusive and quite effective. I write many poems with a rhyme scheme that few readers discover. My first 5 or so poems written for this month are full of quiet rhyme.

    I enjoyed this poem.
