I bounce out of the bungalow in violent morning
like a John Woo character goes down an escalator:
Both hands blaze gunning,
features gnarled in a rictus of adrenalin
before being arrested by the worms washed up on the walk.
Unlike the rest of the changing faces and places,
dos and don’ts, the lists and the lost,
they need me to be there.
Slow twisting annelids, blindly seeking soil,
dislocated by storms.
Cuffs dampened by cement puddles
I gather them back, to the earth.
