She once wanted him
to be the one with whom
she would have pretty babies
share the writing life
Keep the peace in her family
All the while taking her
Away from it
But it would never be
he could not love her
Like that
And he didn’t know
He wanted to so badly
So did she
But she intimidated the hell
Out of him
Leaving him impotent
In ways he never thought possible
She never thought probable
Devastated
They parted
Each thinking the other the cause
The longing still there
Even in the many years
That separated them
Even now
Even then.
M J, great title and ending couple of lines for the bittersweet story
Touching, like a gloved hand. Good work.
A poem many readers can and will relate to…
