THE METAL SKINNED PREDATOR
Roaming asphalt paths,
country lanes embraced
by trees and fences and
fields of grasses,
corn and tobacco,
I am the metal skinned
predator.
Birds and squirrels and
rabbits flee in disbelief
from the shiny,
rumbling monster
bearing down on them
faster than a cheetah.
But one incredulous insect
goes splat against the
windshield, its juicy
innards
leaving long white and
yellow streaks upon
the clear glass.
A great sense of speed and being stopped, splat. Both idyllic and the flip side, startling. Good sense of timing.
