Dim lights, oldies music.  My husband had slipped 

out for a minute when a man I’d meet once 

at a writers’ conference asked me to dance.  

He said I feel awkward, now,

when someone asks me what I do.

I’ve never actually…(and he confessed several things, 

likely from numbers 1 through 35 

but the music was loud and I’m hard of hearing).

Don’t know how to handle that.  And he looked 

into my eyes and waited.  I shrugged 

one shoulder.  I always say ‘I write.’
