Casper at the Erie Academy for Troubled Youth

At the end of the day, billowed the hollow-eyed head-master, Casper slips
and floats by, simple minded, friendly; we can’t do a thing with him.

Pale, long, faceless counselors wax mournful
to Casper’s distressed guardians at the parent teacher conference.

The sorrowful McFaddens survived the heartless von Schroepples,
and now face the specter of their precious will-of-the-wisp being cast out.

For what seemed an eternity the higher ups debate attitude, motivation,
this edging toward then pulling back from doing something bad.

They shake their heads at Casper’s impenetrable morass of moral ambiguity; That is the ball and chain that holds little Casper back in our judgement.

The guardians point out discrepancy in the grading spectrum,
a non-organic scatter in the coefficient of the means.

Oh yes, he performs like the devil in spirited co-operative games.
But he fizzles in the dead of the night with core curriculum.

This will come back to haunt him,
the administrators fold the file of Casper’s ill-foreboded fate.

We have left no stone unturned,
pronounced the school psychologist with grave finality.

At first we thought
maybe he was just uncomfortable in a formal setting,

you know, a kid who won’t say ‘boo’ when called on in class,
but howls like holy terror, at recess.

Sadly, surveillance shows he’s always drifting just around at the edge
of danger. We’re not saying he’s a trouble maker, the very opposite.

And let’s be clear, we do not profile him because of his odd head shape.
He would not be treated any differently if you threw a sheet over him.

So dear parents, let’s face it, in the real world Casper, bless his heart, has not a ghost’s chance of success.

Bobby, very funny, especially how the school wouldn’t treat Casper any differently if you threw a sheet over him. Not sure about the odd shaped head.
