RISING WITH THE MOON
On a cold, clear winter night
I watched the full moon rising
slowly through the bare limbs of the
tall oaks along the gorge rim
and became so deeply and completely
immersed in the rising moon
that I dropped my pretensions and
rose with it
— until my pretensions
caught up with me
rising naked and carefree
among the tall trees
spouting poetry
and quickly covered me
with a thick cloak made out of heavy
material I had spun from philosophy…
