“thought on Pluto not being a planet” by Tyler Worthington

now that Pluto isn’t a planet
nobody gives a damn about anything
if a small group,
and by small
I mean smaller than a book club
dedicated to the works of D.H. Lawrence
and Otto Höfler
many thousands of units of measurements smaller
than a planet or a floating rock,
can simply just one day get together
and agree about what is fact and what is not
and because of their status we must then agree with them
and alter the way we perceive fact and what isn’t
then astronomy isn’t a science
it’s liberal art with numbers
and no more credible than the zodiac
why
because I said so on paper
funny though
because I’m sure people would give a damn about that
when it comes to themselves, people will rise up in arms
to defend their freedom liberty and job description
but Pluto, the small PLANET
doesn’t merit so much as a whisper of deceit and untruth
in the minds of academic paper celebrities
and a brief cameo appearance in an astronomy documentary
about planets and suns that for some reason
even though they appear so tiny in the sky
and far away from here
and they are nothing but drops in the bucket mind you
for some odd reason
academics know exactly all the precise measurements and calculations
concerning the dynamics of these things we pale in comparison to
and they could tell us they’re made of sherbet ice cream
and the tears of joy from outer space whales who are also big fans of D.H.Lawrence
and double rainbows are actually portals to the 4367th dimension
and we’d believe it
and we still wouldn’t give a damn about anything
