“AFTER SUCH GRACE” by Vijay Singh

This light, sparkling in air wet after rain,
Is bursting with ecstasies, hundreds of them,
From this lifetime, maybe also from others

Moments of beatitude when time stood still
And Reality shone through, clear, iridescent
In its splendor, flowing, engulfing, carrying
Me in wave after wave of Spandalahar*

Like being in the warm open field after a week
In hospital, that sunny, grateful day in November

Or dancing shades in the cool breeze of mango
Groves, on long afternoons in childhood summer

Millions, maybe zillions of such moments
Of bliss I have known in my good fortune;
Some recognized instantly, others gurgling as
Underground spring below Vikalpas’ ** cover

After such grace, what grief, lament,
Complaint, disappointment or disorder!
………………………………………………………………….
*Spandalahar: Pulsating Waves beating in the heart of cosmos, and spreading all over
**Vikalpas: A Sanskrit word for thought streams that race through a man’s brain, all day, all night, clouding his vision and stealing his peaceful repose
