“Scarf” by Leatha Kendrick

A square of silk
blue on blue
her color
but without her
scent after sixteen
years I wear
today for no
reason beyond
its blue sudden
thought to carry
around my neck
her presence
odorless light
warm as if her eyes
are not earth
clogged blind
I feel
watched
held

Beautiful, Leatha. It expresses the magic in a loved-ones clothes, the way they seem to absorb an essence. Love the rhymes: square, wear, carry. And my eyes are drawn back to the line “years I wear.”

Actually, the title of the poem is “Scarf.” Not quite sure how this edit was made — Or perhaps the file I submitted somehow lost its title?
