“What to Do During a Summer Rain” by Karen George

Carry houseplants outside, take
a walk without an umbrella,
let the rain cascade
down your arms, face,
feel your hair go limp
then heavy as it absorbs,
the way wet socks squish.

Remove your glasses,
fold and tuck them in a pocket,
everything fuzzy at first.
Guzzle scents of wet
soil, leaves, concrete.
Visualize how robins
will pull worms from the earth,
how pill bugs will revel beneath rocks.
