In the mind, the cold stays. Riotous stars,
turned a slow gray, climb back into their shells
for each to fall unlit. Instant of strange—flocks,
forgotten in the meadows, seen fixing silver
wounds before rewinding themselves into the sky.
Another echo shrinks behind the ridgeline:
odd taxidermy of sound. Sleek shapes steal
away in the oozing glimmer of dusk: we,
paperless thieves fleeing a memory of ourselves.
