sQecial Media in Lexington, KY is hosting a contest in honor of Kenneth Patchen and the “picture-poems” he painted throughout his life.
Patchen’s paintings combined poetry with imagery into a unique hybrid of both forms. sQecial is inviting the public to submit similar pieces celebrating the life of this often overlooked visionary.
As part of the Lexington Poetry Month celebration, sQecial wants “local poet-artists and creative dabblers” to create their own picture-poems and get them to sQecial media by 6pm on June 3rd.
Throughout the month, sQecial will display the picture-poems in their hallway. All picture-poems will be entered in a contest to win a $100 sQecial Media gift certificate as well as unnamed additional prizes for runners up.
To enter, create a colorful (or monochromatic) picture-poem no larger than 12×18 inches “that unite words and images in an interesting way.” It must be your own original work, but artists are allowed to collaborate. Submit two high-quality copies of your work (not the original) to sQecial Media by the aforementioned June 3rd deadline.
