“I Walk To Work” by Alison Courtney

My feet take me onto Tates Creek Road
And the cars become louder, especially
The ones that run the light and I give them
A mental finger and a sarcastic thumbs-up

The same light where the green Mini
Swings onto the road at 9:53
Past me and and past the shrieks of recess
That he can’t hear in his little box

There’s the corner where the mom opossum
And her babies left a stain for months
An oily skidmark the only reminder
Of roadkill, the smell long gone

Here’s the church, and the steeple
I don’t open the door to see all the people
Because it’s Tuesday and Greek dinner night
Only happens once a month on Fridays

The commuters can’t see what I can
The worms, as if the sky rained them down
The empty pack of cigarettes and the
Broken porn DVD all scratched and cracked

Or the possum and her pups, first bloated by decay
Then slowly flattened into the pavement
One set of tires at a time, their meat battered
Until the stink was gone but the stain remained

Your finding a kick-ass poem in roadkill right out of the gate on June 1 sets the bar mighty high. I’m serious. Wow

Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could find a captcha
plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having difficulty finding one?
    Thanks a lot!
