“Jazz Personae Poem #1” by Elizabeth Beck

Tala, bright star I
never knew although
I did, I just didn’t remember

They shrouded me
in secrecy for my own
good, for my protection

Your name a clap
in rhythm I never heard
instead, you became a silence

A star they named
after fates took you away
leaving me here staring

I look for you between
pages of faded snapshots
in twinkling night sky

Wondering, if after
all this time, you are
still searching for me.
