Poem 1 by M J Eaton

June 1

Even though summer is not summer until June 21
Memorial Day plays the role of trumpeter of the season.
“America the Beautiful” opens the city pools
brings jobs to the college kids
closes the schools to any real study
fills the birdbaths and humming bird feeders
flowers the pots and boxes, colors the landscape
feathery mixes of multiple hues
covering the hillsides, blanketing the roadways
How do we to take the days seriously with these
warm whispers of breeze and scent?
Look out the window and nothing gets done
make a plan and see what it gets you
