Jazz Personae Poem #3 by Elizabeth Beck

Crayon Box

Kindergarten confronts my almond eyes
sixty-four shades of pristine points, not one
of them shades me. Leda chooses pale pink
and Christopher picks olive. I study my arm
wondering what color is Philippine and which
is Jewish and Daddy must be Kentucky blue
but, where does that leave me?
