Nothing is easy for you & your family,
sometimes 20 or more in a 3 bedroom house.
It is a better house than many along the bay,
but there has been no water for 2 months.
 
Across Easy Street to the right, a bus stop fronts
the highway from 11 Mile Bull Bay
to Kingston. The owner of that utility shed house
sells cigarettes one at a time, ganja. Dizzily,
 
travelers pass me by.
Most notice me for I am white.
Out of many, one will speak.
You join me & ask you OK?
 
I say:
“I am weak
in your presence. I may write
drought from earth & sky;
 
yet, I am powerless
against the euphoria
your body brings to mine.
Forever does not take long…”
 
Your lips form the smile of understanding.
