“Sanctuary” by Keith Stewart

I want someone to build
me a bookcase
in the shape of a tree.

Each branch a promise
to bear fruits
of insight and knowledge.

Every leaf an indulgence
of terror, grief, and bliss,
what I contemplate and believe.

Then I want the same builder
to sit with me quietly
in its shade and understand.
