Jazz Personae Poem #18 by Elizabeth Beck

Mirror Lake

reflects shallow
indentations on

my soul I ride
my heart on pedals

wheels turn within
my mind and heart

bike spokes interrupt
creative concentration

seat connected as one
with my body, my mind

quivering, wavering on
the unshattered surface

the aquamarine pool of
a life-long memory’s lies

darling deception honks
my bicycle horn trumpets

my pain from endurance
to cycle back around again
