“Room for Everyone” by Hap Houlihan

A man, wise and devout,
But for whom conventional
Afterlife lore holds no truck,
Offers his own brave theory—

Your consciousness, now free
From the petty chemical tides
Of hunger, lust, fear, or fatigue
Becomes your whole universe:

Formed in the geography of your perception
Peopled with the denizens of your memory
Cobbled of the architecture of your experience
Bordered by the boundaries of your imagination

Clothed in the raiment of your self-image,
You find yourself a hero of utopia, or
A cold pisspot in a dank cavern corner.
—Reports from beyond still vary wildly.

What a pleasure! I think so, too! I have never seen such a close description of what I imagine the afterlife to be. Actually, I love this planet and the local cosmos so much that I am at peace knowing my molecules will still be here, and people can keep what they want of me, in thought and feeling. Thank you for your poem.
