How do you sketch a windfall?
Be it time of falling
or gathering?
Reach out, and touch the skin
of an apple.
Study it for every sensation:
take note of how
the surface turns
from russet into gold,
no matter if its shinny or dull.
Remember the seeds
buried within,
how it clung for a moment
before dropping
as one wholly perfect apparatus.
And with a stub of charcoal,
fill the page just as casually.
As if breathing onto it.
Or stroking the spiked skin evenly.
