“Covering Up” by Karen George

In front of my car,
a van’s license plates reveal
the owner a minister,
and because of that fact I suspect,
someone formed a breast in the dust
of each back window.

I smile, think of the male obsession
with the female form, wonder
who claimed which body parts indecent,
the ones clothes must cover,
and why we complied?

How freeing it was to visit
nudist camps with you,
where couples, families,
every age and shape,
walked, swam, ate
with neither clothes
nor shame.
