“Grace” by Julian DeVille

I dreamed as a child of swaying motion
in a backstreet alley dancers so graceful
among them my lover with each motion
drifting closer to the pavement how their
arms were stained white then grey then black
till they stretched downward and didn’t get up
beautiful stillness I dared not move for fear
of shattering something perfect had I really witnessed grace?
