“Painting” by Rudy Thomas

On this Sunday morning, I stay home.
I study the white canvas on the easel as
tho it were a white sheet of paper
in need of words, a poem to say the least.

Yesterday was the movable feast
my brother-in-law holds annually. The caper
gets family together whereas
other gatherings cannot. Water & sea foam

come to mind as I stare into my soul.
I will paint water falling down on two
naked people, male & female. You & I
near Ocho Rios before we wed.

We laughed, touched, splashed & you said
words of love you did not mean, but words I
took to heart. I dedicate those moments to you
& forgive time for taking its terrible toll.
