over the waves of limestone

kissing the first monday of spring.

 

Am I already dreaming of Lexington?

of course I am,

knowing that the city is becoming a

sphere without me,

as my friends from suburbia

dump into the core of north broadway

and settle into new coffee joints

stuffing our mouths with square donuts and

casting our shadows onto

our positive graffiti 

 

 

we complain of our

one way streets

but if we ever stopped to look at

the buildings that outline them

does it really even matter?

We get there,

just after a few turns or so, 

we get there.

 

missing every time

i drive on richmond road,

slowing down right before I

reach Calipari’s house

so I can blow a kiss

to that architecture 

that’s claimed by  

our Kentucky god 

 

holding the knowledge that

takes creek road can send 

you into the heart of downtown

or into wild jessamine county

winding our camrys past the 

exposed knobs that cradle our city.

 

we cruise as easy as the waterfalls

on the sides of the Appalachians

pouring our car seats straight

to the edge of the oldest running

ferry of our homeland

 

and those 5 minutes it takes 

to carry you across to a brand new county

you dream that one day

you’ll travel vertical down that

green thick river

bending your head to look under the rusty bridges

instead of lowering them to look over the side 

hoping that a truck won’t block the view.

 

and maybe this is why

it’s hard for me to write romantically

about the highlands that parade over Glasgow

about how bright the river Liffey reflects on

James Joyce’s home and hell

about how the Eiffel tour did nothing but

stand for me.

 

I keep dreaming of Kentucky, 

how those words sound in my mouth

when people ask me where I’m from.

That you can still hear the Indian origin 

for “Ken-tah-ten”,

the land of tomorrow.

 

And soon that land will be my tomorrow

but for now I’ll keep the horses and people

and the mountains and that blue moon 

in my dreams.

    My coder is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the costs. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on various websites for about a year and am anxious about switching to another platform. I have heard excellent things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it? Any kind of help would be really appreciated!
