I Will Hem the Skirt of Your Pain

stitch it tight, make it light, easier
to haul. Let my hands do this
for you—let them unburden you, peel
that snaked skin new. I will wrap you,
snug from the thing that quickens your pulse,
hold you warm like sun-rubbed sheets.
Let me trim that ache, sew it with love
and safe. I’ll fold you close, one yard at a time.
I’ll tuck myself in the raw cotton of you.
