Dear Editors: I’m writing to let you know
the poem you reference above suffered 

a horrendous assault last night: repeated
slashings, the subsequent loss of a number 

of lines as well as sustaining a multitude
of smaller cuts, all of which might have killed 

a weaker poem. So I’m happy to say the patient
survived, responding first to a dose of whimsy
