In the Dip Beyond the Upland

At the base of the chalk formation he entered the garden.

He was going to, perhaps, kiss her. Her untidy misgivings

vanished into the ridgeway with greater zest than all the

philosophies, or what not.  The vast northern landscape

lay beneath the tenderness, further off than it had seemed.
