I am walking through
familiar neighborhood;
the one I grew up in.

She is here with me.
Myself..
At 7 years old.

I am riding my bike.
Feeling wind
on every inch 
of my body.
The sun is warm
on my bare shoulders.
My family trails
in front of me.
I am last in line.

And I’m laughing now,
age 19,
Because many
bike rides later
I am not sure
what family is.
But I saw one
on a movie
once.

Turn the corner
to meet myself,
age 10.
Where i had
my first kiss.
His lips
meeting mine.
He tastes sort of
like gobstoppers
but he smells
like maple syrup.
His hands are dry
And I can’t help
but think
this is not how
it’s supposed to be.
My leg didn’t pop.

And I’m laughing now,
age 19,
because many kisses later…
I’m not sure what a
popping leg is
but I saw it
on Princess diaries
once…

I guess movies
always give us
unrealistic expectations.
