    Every year, there is a special theme tailored to water resources issues that are considered important and need to receive attention from the international community. For example, the theme in 2021 is “Valuing Water” and in 2022 the theme is “Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible” or “Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible.”

    This theme pays more attention to hidden water resources, namely groundwater. Groundwater resources are considered very important but are not fully recognized in sustainable development policy making. According to the UN, the theme of this year’s World Water Day campaign will explain the vital role of groundwater in water and sanitation systems, agriculture, industry, ecosystems and climate change adaptation.

    In groundwater management, there are three (3) aspects that must not be forgotten, namely the utilization aspect, the conservation aspect and the control aspect. Out of these seven ocean liners, three of them have since been preserved. The Rotterdam has been moored in Rotterdam as a museum and hotel since 2008, while the Queen Elizabeth 2 has been a floating luxury hotel and museum at Mina Rashid, Dubai since 2018.[78][79] The Ancerville was refurbished as a hotel for use at the Sea World development in Shenzhen, China in 1984.[80]

    The first of these, Astoria (originally the ocean liner MS Stockholm, which collided with Andrea Doria in 1956[81]) has been rebuilt and refitted as a cruise ship over the years and was in active service for Cruise & Maritime Voyages until operations ceased in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In August, 2021 she was purchased by Brock Pierce to be transformed into a hotel along with MV Funchal. These plans were ultimately abandoned and the ship was again made available for sale, never having left port in Rotterdam.[82] Astoria was reported to have been sold for scrap in January 2023, but this has been denied by the ship’s owner.[83] United States has been docked in Philadelphia since 1996, and now relies on funds to keep her afloat in hopes of restoration and redevelopment. She was purchased by RXR Realty in 2020 with intentions of being redeveloped into a museum, hotel, and multi-use space, but no progress has been made as of 2022.[84] Brazil Maru is laid-up in Zhanjiang, China. Funchal was purchased by Brock Pierce in 2021, with the intention of turning her into a hotel.[85] Her future is uncertain as it was reported in July 2021 that no progress has been made since then.[86]
