Lead Beach
we stood in the rippling wavelets
sun made metallurgic. copper pairs
of mermaid eyes flashed below
the water in their turns, exactly
everywhere i looked beyond the tide,
though none of the mermaids
themselves would surface.
have they come to get their
looks at us? i wondered.
are they shy?
you tell me, you said. and you kissed
open my mouth for their safe passage.
lovely and well done. I’m happy to have this be the first poem I’ve read today. :)
what a lovely thing to hear this early morning! thank you.
I enjoy the last line very much. Thank you for this poem.
thank you. i am having a hard time navigating to find your poems…have you posted?
This is only the second poem of yours that I have read, but I’m already going to be looking for your entries. So beautiful!
Thanks again Rudy. i will also look for your poems….are you posting as well?
i will try to mix it up…..i have various tones, so i want to show many this month. thanks for reading.
You also demonstrate that a good poem is best served by a strong ending.
