t-shirts I own

Saw this meme on my news feed yesterday
and it’s everything in the corner of my closet times ten,
it’s all that spills over into drawers and onto the king-sized bed
and under the dresser and over every facet of my life:

t-shirts I own: 50
t-shirts I wear: 5
t-shirts I’m willing to give up: 0

Told my mom I’m going to patch them into a quilt
so that she stops asking to pitch them in the Goodwill bag,
told my sisters they can quit asking for the ones that are too small,
told myself I’m going to quit procrasturbating, stop relishing
in the waiting, the putting-off, and clean them all out already.

Folded them all up and put them in a stack.
Oh, who am I kidding– they barely fit into five haphazard
piles on the bed, each one a rainbow of faded colors, vibrant shades,
a heavy influence on UK blue and maroon-and-gold of my alma maters.

Twisted the words to fit my own purposes, left them on the page:
t-shirts I own: priceless memories to which I cling oh-so-fervently
t-shirts I wear: only the ones that fit, or make me look cool
t-shirts I’m willing to give up: still, no matter what, zero.
