“The Angel of Ephemera” by Jeremy Paden

has no truck with collectors
of programs & ticket stubs
political buttons & fans

not from professional jealousies
but ethics, for those that scour
flea markets & basements

passing over the handmade
playbill for a punk band
that never left the garage

that keep only tourist maps
unmarked are like galleries
that hack off graffiti from walls

the Angel of Ephemera
moves about in silver robes
with wings slight as a dayfly

it hovers close to telephone poles
rises out of the memory box
of an eight year old girl

who knows that nothing
is truly evanescent, that all
things matter & leave their mark
