of spit, mud, & bruised herbs
not with sound of thunder
or clap of explosives 
bright before dezzeled eyes 
might zhe wield a sword, string
a bow, don two maille shirts
to go down to the fight
who or when, what or how
god’s chosen are & come
none can say, accounts
differ, some swear zhe will
drink with unquenched thrist 
will dance with all the damned
some curse the name of all
who swear zhe won’t deny
all pleasures of the flesh
when zhe walks among us
& shares the bitter cup
of wine all are given 
none will know till after
the body is taken
down from the barbed wire fence
shrouded & dragged through streets
abandoned in the morgue
with no one to cry out
here, here lies god’s goodness
