Would she weave the lanes
like lines in a poem?
Dash intersections risky
with honking words?
Observe the colorful hues
of verse in her rear view mirror?  

Or would she simmer,
caught in a list of cars
when a poem is brewing
and all she wants is to get home
to wrestle it down
into some quiet confession?  

Maybe the one so mused in thought
she would be the car idling
when the light changes,
the one who needs thunder
or some colossus spell
to get moving?  

Rage the finger, curse,
poised to leap
through open window—
the driver you fear
might cradle a gun
or a pit bull in her lap?  

Or driving the fog-riddled
country roads, headlights silent,
with nothing but the whispers
of a willowy moon,
the one racing wild
through this dangerous dark?

    I really like what you have done in this poem. Inspiration can come from anywhere and in any form, so how best to capture it when it comes. I’d love to know to know what Sylvia does.

    This is terrific Allison. I feel that it portrays Sylvia doing all those things at once in her mind. Whether the real Sylvia could hold all those selves at once is debatable but that’s exactly how I envision her. Great imagination.
