Archimedes, if he had enough,
could move the earth.
Hyperbolic but concrete.
Wall Street uses leverage
to paint its surrealistic picture of the world.
Where infinitely corruptible money trees
are set on fire at an agreed upon time
so those who own the Fire Department can collect
from those who bet on the tree.
Then more money trees are grown by a strange
reverse osmosis where paper becomes wood.
Nothing in the way of goods
or produce is involved.
Leverage and hedges: an arrangement between big thieves
to siphon billions away from little thieves.
Money is merely an agreement;
leverage is that same agreement taken one step
further away from work.
One step more distant
from what a normal person would call value.
On leverage:
a three-year-old once told me
the ramp to the chicken house
was an inclined plane – a lever
he could use to get the eggs
before the weasel came
That’s one smart three year old. i wonder how the story would go from the weasel’s pov.
A pleasure!
Huzzah!
Archimedes and Wall Street – must be a Bobby poem! Nice conclusion to the poem.
Depressingly accurate. How did you make grand larceny poetic??
Making it poetic is easy compared to how they made it legal!
