“My Father Loses an Argument” by Chris McCurry

That right there is enough
for every weekend he didn’t
show up and forgot to call
to tell his sons how sorry
he was to keep us waiting
on the porch, bags packed
with extra clothes, some toys
to play with and always
a toboggan for the morning
ride back home in the cold
truck—whose heater worked fine
damn him! but was never on.
