“Bring Good News” by Duke Gatsos

A dove
taps four-pronged bulletin
on my window sill

ill defined chubby lumps
kick loose the amniotic

thuds down the plastic slide
pedals whirred in circles
ran green to hide and seek
burned at the beach
tarred on the blacktop

tinted blue by silk sock
shod in Ferragamo gloss
approach to transport a handshake

booted below fatigues
through dust to deliver
wounded overseas

callous-cracked smelly
braving black fungus peeling
blistered by mileage
prone to ugliness from employ

fingers slid lucent shin
over versatile bump
of ankle cupped
heel, tickling the arch
tracing to upturned
toe curling

wrinkled and yellow, broken
hang-nailed spindly in places drug
before the walker

passing under casket
waiting in line to pay
respect
are the feet of them.
