“2:55 AM” by Rudy Thomas

I dream.
If you could see me,
you would know
you are every image.

A dream rain falls.
The house is a drum.
Its song is a rhythm
I have never danced to.

The room you once slept in
is as empty as I am.
You moved the bed with you
when you married.

I sit on the edge of my bed,
my eyes closed.
I see your face.
I trace the shape of it

with my chin & head.
I write words on my eyelids.
When I have finished,
I read the poem

line by line.
& the rogue you are
smiles
back at me.
