“Is There a Time Limit on Expectations” by Jessica Swafford

Is there a time
limit to stop caring?
A moment? An hour?
7 days? 2256 days?
You tell me
you love me
more
than six years
after
that sparking kiss,
after the move-in
bed christening,
six years after we met –
but only after I have
given up on you,
am entertaining
thoughts of marriage.
Your admittance
to something
I always knew
is welcomed,

but I don’t know
what you expect
of me.
