“If Sixes were Sevens, well you wouldn’t know the difference would you now?” by Tyler Worthington

It’s been 600 years
we are them
and they were us
can they see
what we see
we have to remain strong
and find our philosophy

against the horizon
there was a time
one could see
multitudes advancing
on the castle of philosophy

it’s 700 years now
seems everybody’s dead and gone
our castle is crumbling down
one hundred years ago
the youth
we were once called
we stood outside the castle
right upon the castle walls
until we realized
, not all at the same time mind you,
it wasn’t the right way
to try to bring it down
we came as friends
our philosophies we preached
till all the minds were put to rest
the dead laid to rest
and the debts too
even came down from a few of these towers
and the land we tried to heal next
blessings were given to the just and the meek
as I recall it was quite a few mouths to feed
I still have no clue how they managed all that feeding business though

it’s been 700 years
since the first philosophies were inspired
truth it seems
never gets too old
there are still those left who stand outside the doors
can’t you hear them
they are shouting against the skies
” Unmask yourselves, let us look in your eyes
and know that you are not just ideas in disguise
we speak from our hearts
the truths in the only way we know how
there is much unanswered
much to be atoned for
that land you healed didn’t go away
nothing stays the same either
do you hear what we are saying
where lie your minds
we want truth
and the death of us will be lies”
the quick to anger may call this blasphemy
but after 700 years we call it wise
the beginning of wisdom does not begin
with acceptance but experience
like losing your half empty cup
and searching only to find that after taking a deep breath
and the time to patiently observe
you find it
half full
still plenty to quench the thirst

Oh revolutions come and go
believe me I’ve seen a few
doesn’t bother me as bad as it did then
but the revolution revolved itself
that’s the end goal
always ends well for someone

Fables tell of ancient spirits
though I can’t remember when
they guarded the forests
the trees and streams
no one can recall now
why they did leave
was it that they went on holiday
sure have been gone an awful long time
I should know
once took a week off
to see the countryside
and all those transcendental things
came back
place was a complete mess
you’d think someone
would have a little responsibility for their living environment
but believe you me
those kinds are few and far between

Ah I remember now
rifles and grenades
that’s what did it
and cannons
and lets not forget that nasty gas business
yes all those killing things did their job
ever try killing ants
try as you might you will always
find more ants
the earth would literally have to try
to decimate the ant population for that to happen
and no those spirits are not ants
it’s a downright shame
oh well
I like to believe it’s never really goodbye
just see you later
alot of ants die in revolutions you see
and when not all ants die
there’s always those left to ask the big questions
and wait till they meet again to ask

A little advice for all the youths and young at heart
be a daring rascal
and start day dreaming
let the fantasies of the unconscious
whisk you away for a spell
in the relative safety of your desk or chair or a couch preferably
but if you are enlisted in an education system
then the 16th or 17th rows of your philosophy lecture
should do nicely
no spoilers
I can’t finish you story for you
that’s how it goes they used to say
I’m still saying that too

No road is ever easy
not even the unconscious ones
obstacles within will block the way
as you experience the inner self
a life you could say
within your mind
the realms
of desert and forest
sea and storm
the land of the ancestors
the realms where the dead wander
monsters be here take note
and be on your guard
remember your steps
sharpen your mind
stay quick do be slow to thinking things through
as you delve into the darker places
where shadows and anger dwell
the only weapon you need bring with you
is the that of your mind
why do you think I keep telling you to keep it sharp
for your health
for the next hundred years
I’d like to know 7 became 9
