“Broach” by Barbara Sabol

Original Ruse.              Glitter fish,
tarnished star wreath,
with your clasp gone
how will you fasten
to my black cashmere,
tight across the chest
unbuttoned to . . . yes
.              oh yes
he said at the Blue Sky
Drive-In, clinched
against the red leather
of his Corvair convertible.
.              How to sparkle now
with your rhinestones half-
slipped? A galaxy of longing
sputters in the night.

Barbara Sabol,
Original Ruse (2011)
