Numbered BonesI am in the cloak room,
just a bed piled up with coats,
talking seductively
because I am in love with a long
black dress, loose at the bottom
and tight and embroidered at the top,
hippy style, anachronistic.
I leave my date, whose dress is white,
because I am consumed by animal passion.
Her fingers are like a cello player’s.
She says she is a cello player,
and she says a thief should recognize a wolf
and would I please help
put her sheepskin coat on
so we can go outside and smoke
a joint. It is January in Ontario,
my birthday.
Outside, her straight
long black hair turns gray and short,
and her fingers look like bones, no,
claws. She says if I am going
to steal something from her to do it
quickly because the moon is full,
and the time of month is right, and she
does not feel the cold.
