John James was born in California and raised in Kentucky. His work appears or is forthcoming in Boston Review, The Kenyon Review, Gulf Coast, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Best New Poets 2013, and elsewhere. He holds an M.F.A. in poetry from Columbia University, where he held multiple fellowships and received an Academy of American Poets Prize. In 2008, he was granted a scholarship from the English-Speaking Union’s Kentucky Branch to study at Oxford University. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where he teaches at Bellarmine University and co-curates the Speak Social Reading Series.
