When I Start To Feel Sick

When I start to feel sick,
My Cerebral Cortex puffs up.
Upper respiratory snot traffic
Comes to a screeching halt.

Bug-eyed and disoriented,
I drink Sencha green tea,
Overloaded with lemon, honey, and ginger;
Served hot hits the spot.

If a sauna is not available,
I will climb in the shower
And stand under the scalding water,
Trying to undo the achy cold sicklies.

For sustenance,
Lentil Soup is served hot,
With a brave dose of Cayenne,
Paprika, garlic, and wasabi.

Capsaicin opens me up,
Orange juice cools me down.
Probiotic yogurt and blueberries
Finish off the attack.

In a scattered pile of
Discarded yellow/green tissues,
A note with a quote from Hippocrates stands out:
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

– Chuck Clenney
