20 Years in the USA: Katerina Stoykova-Klemer’s Anniversary Reading and Celebration

Katerina passportAccents founder and Senior Editor Katerina Stoykova-Klemer will be hosting a reading and celebration tonight at the Lexington Public Library’s Farish Theater!

September 22nd is the 20th anniversary of the day I stepped on American land. A lot has changed since then – countries, homes, people, cities.

I would love for you to join me on that day at 6:30 pm at The Farish Theater to let me read you a few poems about immigration, immigrating, making a space yours, making your self into your home.

Bring your handkerchiefs, but also your smiling faces, for this will be a celebration!

This will be an opportunity for me to thank you in person for making me feel welcome and loved in your wonderful country.

Love and light to you, good people of Kentucky!

Yours,
Katerina Stoykova-Klemer

We would love to have you there, and if you’re able to come, feel free to RSVP on the Facebook Event page.

Directed by Thomas Southerland, Proud Citizen stars Katerina Stoykova-Klemer as Krasimira Stanimirova, a Bulgarian playwright who won second place in a play-writing contest and finds out that Kentucky (and the US, for that matter) is not what she had expected. The film also contains the work of local artists, such as music producer Otto Helmuth, and features acting from Natalie E. Cummins, Leif Erickson, Ryan Case, and others.

Tickets are available now at the Kentucky Theatre, or you can get them online by clicking here.

The film starts at 7:30pm, but Kremena Todorova and JD Lester are having a potluck starting at 6:30 at the Kentucky Theatre, so bring something and get a chance to meet the cast and crew.

Proud Citizen Lexington Premiere

proudcitizenrevlaurels2Proud Citizen, a feature-length film shot almost entirely in Lexington with a local cast, will make its Lexington premiere on January 15th, 2015 at 7:30 at the Kentucky Theater. Tickets are $6.00.

After winning second place in a play writing contest, Bulgarian Krasimira Stanimirova travels to the rolling hills of Kentucky for the premiere of her autobiographical, Communist-era play Black Coat. Expecting southern hospitality, Krasi instead finds herself isolated and lonely as she explores America on foot. Proud Citizen is a funny, sometimes heartbreaking meditation on disappointment, traveling, the comfort of strangers and the joy of funnel cakes.

Directed by Thom Southerland and featuring Katerina Stoykova-Klemer in the lead role, the film has gathered awards such as “Best of the Fest” and “Best Narrative Feature” and “Audience Favorite” from New Orleans Film Festival, River’s Edge International Film Festival, Knoxville Film Festival, and others.
