Fountains for Orpheus by Audrey RooneyWe invite you to attend the world premiere of Audrey Rooney‘s Fountains for Orpheus at the Carnegie Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

In Fountains of Orpheus, Audrey Rooney explores timeless concepts from love and loss to aging and nature. This book contains poems of diverse shapes, forms and sizes, as well as several translations of Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus, matched with Audrey’s poignant responses to Rilke’s work.

Audrey will read from and copies of Fountains for Orpheus will be available from Accents Publishing.

LexPoMo 2016 Writing Challenge Stats

This has been the best Lexington Poetry Month yet, and we can’t express how grateful we are to have such an amazing community of supportive and talented poets. We also can’t say enough good things about our sponsors, Apex Publications and The Morris Book Shop, and how much of a blessing they have been to the local writing community as well as their specific communities at large.   • 156 poets registered for the event
  • Together, we posted 1,542 poems during the Writing Challenge
  • We commented 3,485 times on people’s poems
  • We had 8% more views than last year
  • 2,583 people came to our site from Facebook
  • Of our overall audience, 99% came from the United States
  • Of our international audience,
    • 15% came from the United Kingdom
    • 13% came from Bulgaria
    • 12% came from Canada

The Kentucky Poetry Festival

Kentucky Poetry FestivalToday marks the beginning of the Kentucky Poetry Festival, sponsored by the University of Kentucky’s MFA in Creative Writing. The festival includes a variety of events, including an ekphrastic poetry contest, a poetry slam, and various readings.

Teen Howl 34 w/ Madison Miller & Bianca Spriggs

Teen Howl 34Tonight’s Teen Howl Poetry Series will feature teen poet Madison Miller. The reading starts at 6pm at the Morris book shop. Open mic sign-ups start at 5:45.

Also, Bianca Spriggs will read as a special guest, and, as always, the event will be hosted by founders Elizabeth Beck and Jay McCoy.
